🇺🇸 GLENDORA COMMUNITY • CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

My Experience at America's Tire in Glendora: A Customer Should Be Allowed to Say No Thank you

As someone who has lived and worked in the Glendora community for many years, I believe local businesses should treat customers with professionalism, respect, and courtesy.

Unfortunately, my recent experience at America's Tire in Glendora left me extremely disappointed.

I wasn't even bringing in my own vehicle. I was helping an 80-year-old friend who was unable to drop her car off herself.

She needed the two front tires replaced, so I offered to take the vehicle in for her.

What should have been a simple tire drop-off turned into a frustrating experience.

A Recommendation Is Still a Recommendation

I want to make something very clear.

I completely understand that a tire company has the right — and the responsibility — to inspect a vehicle and give its professional opinion about the condition of the tires.

If they believe the two rear tires should also be replaced, they absolutely have the right to recommend that.

But a recommendation is still a recommendation. The customer should ultimately decide whether or not to proceed.

Give the customer the information. Explain the safety concern. Show the customer what you found.

Then allow the customer to consider the information and decide whether or not to proceed.

Once the customer makes that decision, I believe it should be respected.

That's where I felt this experience went wrong.

The Vehicle Owner Personally Said No

The staff recommended replacing the two rear tires in addition to the two front tires my friend wanted replaced.

I explained that this wasn't my vehicle and that I couldn't authorize additional work.

To eliminate any confusion, I called my friend and put her on speakerphone so she could speak directly with the staff.

She personally declined the additional service.

At that point, I expected the discussion to be over.

Instead, I felt the sales pressure continued. In my experience, the interaction became unnecessarily aggressive and uncomfortable — even after the actual owner of the vehicle had clearly made her decision.

That's what bothered me most.

🇺🇸 Give your professional opinion. Explain your recommendation. Then respect the customer's decision.

Disagreement With Her Mechanic

There was also a disagreement regarding what my friend's mechanic had previously told her about the vehicle.

From what I personally heard during the conversation, her mechanic's assessment was challenged in a way that I felt suggested her mechanic wasn't being truthful.

I didn't think that was appropriate.

Two professionals can have different opinions. America's Tire can disagree with another mechanic and explain exactly why.

But ultimately, those are professional opinions being presented to the vehicle owner.

The customer should be able to hear the different opinions and make her own decision about her vehicle and her money.

My Interaction With Store Manager Alex Gallegos

My interaction with the store manager, Alex Gallegos, made the situation even more disappointing.

Based on my personal interaction with him during this visit, I found his manner toward me rude and disrespectful.

When I questioned what was happening, I felt I received attitude rather than the professional customer service I expected from a store manager.

Managers set the tone for a business.

I had just gotten out of the gym and was wearing a cutoff workout shirt.

I cannot know why someone treated me a certain way, and I'm not claiming to know anyone else's motivation.

However, I can say that I personally left feeling judged and uncomfortable based on the way I was treated and how I was dressed.

🇺🇸 Why This Matters to Me

I've been a REALTOR® for more than 21 years. I live and work in this community, and my kids attend Glendora High School.

Over the years, I've helped many families throughout Glendora and the surrounding communities.

People regularly ask me about businesses, contractors, services, restaurants, and other companies in our area.

When I recommend a local business, I'm putting my reputation behind that recommendation.

Based solely on this experience, I personally would not recommend this America's Tire location to my clients, friends, or family.

Advice Is Fine. Pressure Is Not.

I want to emphasize that my complaint isn't that America's Tire recommended additional tires.

That's their job.

If they see something they believe could create a safety issue, I want them to tell the customer.

What I disagree with is continuing to pressure someone after they've heard the recommendation, understood it, and declined it.

“Based on our inspection, we recommend replacing these tires, and here's why.”

That's a recommendation.

“No, thank you.”

In my opinion, good customer service means respecting that answer.

🇺🇸 Why I'm Sharing My Experience

I'm sharing this because customer service matters, especially when dealing with seniors and people who depend on friends or family members to help them with vehicle repairs.

Businesses should absolutely give customers their professional recommendations.

The customer owns the vehicle. The customer is paying the bill. The customer should decide whether or not to proceed.

In this situation, the vehicle owner herself was on speakerphone and declined the additional work.

That decision should have been respected.

I went in simply trying to help an 80-year-old friend get her two front tires replaced.

I left extremely disappointed with how the situation was handled.

My personal rating of this particular experience: 0 stars.

Questions About This Experience

Was your complaint that they recommended additional tires?

No. Recommending additional work based on an inspection is their job, and I want them to speak up about safety concerns.

My complaint is about what I felt was continued pressure after the vehicle owner clearly declined.

Did the vehicle owner herself decline the extra work?

Yes. She was put on speakerphone and personally declined the additional tire replacement.

Would you recommend this America's Tire location?

Based solely on this experience, I personally would not recommend this location to my clients, friends, or family.
